What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliating treatment safe for all skin types. It is performed individually or in a series for revitalizing and maintaining the skin's appearance and smoothness. One session generally takes 30 minutes or so. No special preparation is required prior to your visit. However, treatment should be avoided when you have an active cold sore. The most common treatment is the face, though one can also treat neck, chest and hands. Treatments can be repeated monthly much like a facial. Microdermabrasion is a valuable skin care treatment in and of itself but does not take the place of other surgical procedures or therapeutic skin care products. Microdermabrasion is an excellent addition to other procedures.

What is involved?
The first step is a gentle cleansing of the area to be treated using the Clarisonic skin care brush. Second, a concentrated stream of very fine crystals is directed through the hand piece onto the skin to loosen the layer of dead skin cells that form on the surface. It then suctions away both the skin debris and the crystals to reveal fresh invigorated skin. Finally, a hydrating mask is applied and allowed to penetrate the skin.

What steps do I take after treatment?
It is advisable to use a moisturizing sunscreen after treatment and avoid use of exfoliating agents or RetinA type products for a few days. It is ok to apply makeup after your treatment.

What results can I expect?

  • Improving dull or uneven skin color
  • Relieving clogged pores and blackheads
  • Softening general roughness
  • Removing surface debris allows the skin to better absorb topical medication and products
  • Increasing circulation for a natural glow
  • Improvement of sun damaged skin

Are there any side effects?
The procedure may cause a slight redness of the skin and there may be a sensation similar to that of a sunburn that subsides in a few hours.
